Field Shelter

Postby chillidemon on Wed Dec 03, 2008 10:18 am

One thing I needed when I got the sheep was a field shelter. I wanted somewhere for them to go out of the rain and offer some protection from the foul weather. I was looking at various forms of wooden shelters on skids so they can be moved. Then I checked the bank balance
So I was reading a very informative book on Practical Sheep Keeping by Kim Cardel and saw some pictures of polytunnels and the wooden fence to keep them away from the side walls. I had some spare hoops and a little left over plastic so I made one. It cost me next to nothing as I had the bits.

This worked well and we made a hay feeder out of a few fence poles and pig wire. But what the book didnt say was that although you protect the polythene on the inside you need to protect the outside too.

I think I must have a few delinquent lambs who just stood there and kicked it for fun :x
